Villa Castiglioni has been a summer retreat of a wealthy aristocratic family Castiglioni from Milan. For the first time the family Castiglioni has been mentioned in 1455 as a landlord of the judge rural areas in Binago (now suburbs of Milan).
In the beginning of the 20th century (1900-1903) has been built a splendid Palace Castiglioni in Milan by a prominent architect Guiseppe Sommaruga (1867-1917).
A few years later a summer residence of the family Castiglioni in Laglio, Lake Como, has been completed.
Giuseppe Sommaruga was born in Milan in 1867 and has dedicated his talent of architect creating the most admirable palaces and villas both on Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. After the death of Ermenegildo Castiglioni his heritors, unfortunately, were unable to maintain the property, and for 35 years the villa has been completely abandoned. The restoration works started in 2002, and by 2005 Villa Castiglioni reappeared in its original beauty. The current owners offer for rent the most luxurious and comfortable ground level floor of the villa.
